HSO Catches “March Madness” at Talcott Mountain Music Festival July 2

Annual Fourth of July Celebration in Simsbury Includes Fireworks!

SIMSBURY, CT- May 25, 2010– This Fourth of July weekend, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra will Celebrate America at the Talcott Mountain Music Festival SM with a program of the world’s greatest patriotic music and marches on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Simsbury Meadows.  Led by Music Director Edward Cumming (in his grand finale performance of the Talcott Mountain Music Festival), this toe-tapping concert will feature such famous marches as The Thunderer, American Patrol, Hymn of the Nations, Colonel Bogey March, and everyone’s favorite: Stars and Stripes Forever (with FIREWORKS!).

This invigorating concert will feature patriotic music both classic and popular, from Meyerbeer’s “Coronation March” from Le Prophète to Sousa’s El Capitan.  The HSO will honor the troops with an Armed Forces Salute and a stirring rendition of The Star Spangled Banner. For Verdi’s epic Hymn of the Nations, the HSO will bring in the Middletown High School choirs and guest tenor Michael-Paul Krubitzer.  The concert will round out with a patriotic flourish of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever.

Michael-Paul Krubitzer is quickly establishing himself as one of the country’s most promising young tenors. Mr. Krubitzer’s recent successes on the operatic stage include performing the role of Alfredo in La Traviata at Central City Opera, where he was an apprentice artist and also appeared in The Ballad of Baby Doe and Paul Bunyan.   He has performed several times as a Resident Artist with Connecticut Opera.  Mr. Krubitzer is in his last year in the Yale School of Music’s opera program, where he has performed in La Navarraise and Die Zauberflöte. He received his Graduate Performance Diploma in Vocal Performance from the Hartt School of Music, where he performed leading roles in Susannah, Gianni Schicchi, and Don Giovanni.
