HSO Talcott Mountain Music Festival Begins June 25 with Vivaldi, Bach, Handel & Fireworks!

HSO Concertmaster Leonid Sigal to Perform Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons

SIMSBURY, CT- May 20, 2010– The Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s ever-popular Talcott Mountain Music FestivalSM will begin with an enchanting summer evening of Classical favorites on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Simsbury Meadows.  Led by Music Director Edward Cumming, this outdoor concert will feature including HSO Concertmaster Leonid Sigal in a performance of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, as well as Pachelbel’s Canon, Bach’s 3rd Orchestral Suite, and Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks (followed by REAL fireworks!).

Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi’s Le Quattro Stagioni (The Four Seasons) Suite is comprised of four violin concerti, with each one representing a different season of the year.  Beginning with the twittering birds of spring, HSO Concertmaster (first violinist) Leonid Sigal will work his way through sounds of the lazy days of summer, the cool breezes of fall, and the fury of a wintry blizzard.

This program also will feature Johann Pachelbel’s infamous Canon in D Major, which is easily recognizable from its popular use in weddings, movies, TV shows, pop songs, and more.  The HSO’s performance of J.S. Bach’s Third Orchestral Suite will include what is now known as the beloved “Air on a G String.” Finally, George Frederic Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks will be the perfect compliment to the REAL fireworks at the end of the concert.

HSO Concertmaster (first violinist) Leonid Sigal has enjoyed a multi-faceted career as recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestra leader.  Born in Moscow, Russia, he began violin studies at age five. He moved to the US in 1995 when he was awarded a prestigious fellowship with the New World Symphony. A devoted chamber musician, Mr. Sigal frequently appears with the Miami Friends of Chamber Music and the Avery Ensemble, and has served as Artistic Director of the Miami Chamber Symphony.  His experience includes performances in the US, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, Japan, and South Korea. He has performed with Sir Georg Solti, Leonard Bernstein, Mstislav Rostropovich, Evgeny Kissin, Edgar Meyer, Joseph Silverstein, James Ehnes and Roberto Diaz, among others.
