The Hartford Symphony Orchestra will close the 2009-2010 Masterworks Series with a program of “Orchestral Fireworks!” including Igor Stravinsky’s bewitching Firebird Suite next weekend. The program will feature violinist Karina Canellakis in a world premiere performance of a new arrangement of Connecticut composer Charles Ives’ Violin Sonatas, as arranged for orchestra by Music Director Edward Cumming. Other program highlights include Bohuslav Martinu’s humorous La Revue de Cuisine and Saint-Saëns blistering Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso for Violin and Orchestra as performed by Ms. Canellakis.
