Community Programs

Hartford Symphony Orchestra community programs engage and connect with the community through performance and teaching activities and increase visibility of the HSO among communities throughout Greater Hartford.

Musical Dialogues 4, May 2009, Featuring Sankofa Kuumba

Musical Dialogues and Neighborhood Concerts bring live, instrumental music to new segments of the Greater Hartford community and beyond through free performances featuring an array of diverse musicians and conversations with the artists.

Musical Dialogues is supported by Travelers

Musical Connections is a fresh approach to addressing the needs of people coping with challenging social and emotional circumstances by providing musical performances, workshops, and residencies at senior care/retirement facilities, hospitals, homeless shelters and correctional facilities.

Interactive Programs for the Community
The Hartford Symphony’s Instrument Zoo is available for Community events. These presentations are great for scout and youth groups, after school programs, and community events. The HSO has participated in the Bloomfield Drum Festival, First Night Hartford, Hartford Jazz Festival and Celebrate! West Hartford.

Performances for the Community
A Hartford Symphony ensemble can perform for your corporation, community, or senior group. From a small ensemble performance to a family-oriented chamber presentation, the HSO can recommend pre-rehearsed presentations or create a specialized program just right for your organization.

Music for Lifelong Achievement
Do you have a musical instrument tucked away in your attic or closet?

The Hartford Symphony is a local chapter of the Music for Lifelong Achievement, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing new and refurbished musical instruments to under-served children in school and community based programs.

Each year the Hartford Symphony holds an instrument drive and donates the collected instruments to school districts participating in the Symphony in the Schools program.

All instrument donations are acknowledged with a letter that may be used for tax purposes. Donors must provide their own appraisals.

Instrument donations are accepted year-round at the HSO office or at a designated Masterworks concert.
