String Quartets:
The Green Quartet
introduces new classical music by showing how composers recycle notes. Students take part as well by creating art work inspired by Terry Riley’s Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector prior to the quartet’s visit. During the performance, the students’ art work will be displayed while the quartet performs. Grades 3-6 only.

A Piacere String Quartet presents a dynamic review of various musical periods (from Vivaldi to Jimmy Hendrix) accentuated with a diverse set of examples. Depending on the age of the audience this group explores interdisciplinary art relationships and historical context or provides more rudimentary insight into the works performed.

The Voyager String Quartet takes you on a musical trip around Planet Earth to hear the music of a diversity of cultures. Discover how the unique geography and history of each country comes through in the rhythm and tempo of their music.

Woodwind Ensembles:
Viking Woodwind Quintet
Taking inspiration from fabulist Hans Christian Anderson, the Viking Quintet turns to Danish composer, Carl Nielsen, for its centerpiece. Students will be invited to assist in creating a brand new musical fairy tale using variations from Nielsen’s Woodwind Quintet Op. 43.

Woodwind Quartet Explore the instruments of the woodwind quartet on a musical travelogue as they lead us through the lands of Italy, Spain, Germany, Korea and more.

The Classical Jazz Ensemble
Music and movies combine for this interactive, engaging program. Join the Jazz Ensemble as they introduce familiar movie themes and teach us how to jazz it up through melody, harmony and improvisation. Hear everything from Beethoven to the “Transformer’s” theme!
